El Guapo - super/system
This is a band that does what they want. I can’t say that El Guapo is an easy listen with their wacky art-rock style but they will definitely appeal so some. They come from the home of Dischord Records, Washington DC and have been floating for the last five years with various members before reaching where they are today. I tried three times to get through the album and then one day it just felt right. El Guapo’s music is very disjointed at the best of times and I have a hard time believing that the band would actually be able to repeat a song in a live performance note for note. I can hear some influence by older bands like Talking Heads and Wire. El Guapo should end up charting well in the college charts due to their very eclectic flavor. Oh yeah, they all play a whole shitload of different instruments. You definitely have to be in the mood for super/system but when you are it just feels naughty.
