It’s funny, I always have a hard time listening to a disc without having the artwork and liner notes to accompany the product. It may be a fall-back to LP days with the big artwork and the lyrics on the record sleeve. Needless to say, I’m sure I have missed out on the odd gem due to this little quirk of mine but Everybody Uh Oh was an album that came in a boring sleeve with a little photcopied sleeve inserted. Something drove me to listen to this disc and am I ever glad I did. This is powerful indie rock that ebbs and flows with dynamics. This band comes from Illinois, the same state that has brought such bands as Braid, Hum, and the Poster Children. Everybody Uh Oh is more or less a four piece band, with the odd fifth member stepping in. The music is mostly fuzzy but not in the way you would describe a grunge band. They have the ability to play totally soft if it is called for and then increase their volume and intensity to a level of bliss. Everybody Uh Oh is highly recommended for any indie rock fan. I have learned my lesson though, listen to everything that hits your mailbox, even if the time isn’t there.
