Audioslave wasn't bad. I don't think they were as good as either RATM or Soundgarden, but still not terrible. I was actually pretty into this album when it first came on the scene. I was young and stupid back then though =)

Il admit I wasn't a fan for this gathering of sorts. Cornell's voice gets to be repetitive and whiny after three or four songs. But! I dug a few of their tunes. Regardless, I'm glad these guys called it quits after just a few albums.

Sorry Sinist3r but I'm going to have to completely disagree with you. Being a huge fan of both Soundgarden AND Rage Against The Machine I was so excited when I head that Cornell was working with the RATM team. The final result is so formulaic that I puked for 2 weeks straight trying to get into this album. It was probably the single-most disappointment in my music fandom. I actually gave them a chance on each album and on each one they got slightly less formulaic but really, they needed to integrate the fury and creativity of each of their respective bands and that just never happened. Cornell's solo career is even worse but thankfully Tom Morello's solo career is slightly better. Check out my recently posted review of The Nightwatchmen. Audioslave couldn't have turned out worse in my eyes. Obviously other people felt otherwise because of how well this album sold.

A semi reincarnation of RATM, Audioslave does well to keep the sound together, while Chris Cornell ventures into new territory with his high pitched, not completely depressing singing. Tom Morellos guitar screeches and wails like never before, all while keeping on pace with Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk. What is new and improved about Audioslave is that they arent a super-group (and i use that term loosely) trying to sound like their old bands. Admitted, Morello's guitar sounds the same, but he takes what he did RATM, and molded it into something for Audioslave. Audioslave's debut album is something of a cornerstone in modern music. Many music magazines are quoted as saying Audioslave is perhaps one of the worst band names of all time. Obviously these people are all crazy and on some kind of meth and coke mix if they think the name reflects anything about the music. I think that Audioslave is a really unique and creative name. The fact that the band wanted to stay away from another Zach De La Roch and try something new is really astonishing and really shows the creativity in this album. Both Cornell and the rest of the band wanted to show how far they could stretch their limits as far as not trying to sound like Soundgarden or RATM. Cochise, I Am the Highway, and Show Me How To Live are typical rock songs, but somehow Audioslave makes them their own with Cornell's surprising screaming and Morello's shredding. I gave this album a 10, It deserves probably about an 8 or 9, but Audioslave is definitely worth a look and this album should definitely be picked up.
