This Winnipeg Manitoba musician is off to a fine career as a gifted singer/songwriter. Christine Fellows says that we can blame her music on a $200 piano and an endless supply of Scotch and winter. Her music is like a little snow angel indicating that spring is not too far away. Winnipeg must be a hotbed for piano players and Christine is definitely no slouch, as is shown on The Last One Standing. This is her second album, the sophomore follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2 Little Birds. Her arsenal of musicians and different instrumentations are finely picked and versed on the songs. Having good friends in The Weakerthans provides a couple of musicians here. Fellows voice is very street-smart reminding this reviewer of the band Bettie Serveert, which is an extremely good thing. Her songwriting is very well honed and her demeanor is well kept with Standing. Now that she has the support of the new Six Shooter Record label behind her expect to see some action from Christine Fellows. Don’t make the same mistake I did and miss her live performance (I read it in the weekly the day after the show). Christine is a nice addition to Canada’s growing talent base.
