Sigur Ros - Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust
I've always admired Sigur Ros but sometimes I struggled with where they were going. But lately I find myself listening to the Icelandic group more and more. With their last dual EP, Harf/Heim I was very curious to where the group would head next. There are more and more vocal tracks on the once instrumental group. Their newest album Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust. has really outdone anything the group have done thus far. It's an album that the Animal Collective with they released. It's a perfect quirky pop album. The band starts out very lofty with "Gobbledigook", a pop masterpiece. Then they go a lot more straight forward with "Inni Mer Syngur Vitleysingur". The Icelandic vocals almost seem as if they are sung in English, that's how familiar they seem. They hardly bat an eye when they incorporate the London Sinfonietta and London Oratory Boy's Choir on "Ara Batur". On "Festival" you get an amazing demonstration what Jon Thor Birgisson is capable of doing with his wonderful voice, before the band kicks in at about the 5 minute mark, bringing it home. One of the many highlights of this album.
It just seems like this is the perfect culmination of what Sigur Ros has evolved to be. It shows that you don't need to understand vocals to enjoy music. "Vid Spilum Endalaust" is the best Coldplay song ever. If you've never experienced Sigur Ros you need to track down this one. I think any fan of indie pop music will absolutely love Med Sud. It goes down so easily.

I am fairly sure this is their best album so far. While I'll always be more fond of the untitled album, they've hit a peak here. And damn you Dennis, I was just about to review this. Actually thought about doing it yesterday before going with the new Alice Cooper. You're too fast.

I just tried to listen to the free stream of this album hosted at the band's official site, but the player was mucking up. You can hear a couple of tracks, including the incredible "Gobbledigook" at their myspace: www.myspace.com/sigurros
I'm hella excited for this album now. Gobbledigook sounds like nothing they've ever done before.
