Daturah - Reverie
The Germany post-rock group Daturah are on the right track with Reverie, their debut album out now on Graveface. If you are into bands like Isis, Neurosis, Explosions In The Sky or even Godspeed then you should check in with Daturah.
If they are on the right track then why did I just give them 3 stars? Well, I feel that if an instrumental band clocks in songs greater than 10 minutes long then they need to be diverse enough to keep the listener excited. I really like what I hear on all 5 of the songs, even the slower paced "Deep B Flat" but I strongly feel that the band could have kept the songs down to a 5 minute limit and could have released a fine EP. Reverie is best listened to on headphones as well. It's the sort of music that is felt as much as it is heard.
What to do from here... Well, it's not really my call but my suggestions would be to add a bit more ebb and flow to their songs, maybe consider adding some vocals, or just shortening their songs and keep everything in tact. Whether Daturah cares what I say or not is another matter entirely. I'm but one critic.
Regardless, this group of German musicians are definitely talented and there is meat to what they deliver.
