Seeing their former band mate, Chris Carrabba go on to be fairly successful in his Dashboard Confessional band, the remaining members of Further Seems Forever were left picking up the pieces. They picked up former Affinity lead singer, Jason Gleason to fill in Chris’ shoes. He does a great job and Jason has an amazing voice. Actually, that is my favorite part about Further Seems Forever. How To Start A Fire is the follow-up to 2001’s The Moon Is Down and with that there are a lot of expectations for the band. FSF recorded this album with James Paul Wisner, who ironically produced Dashboard Confessional as well. He does a good job, as there are lots of layers to this album. It is a very dynamic album too. It starts out with the strongest track on the album, the title track with guitars screaming in your face and Jason’s aching vocals joining in. Some may just write off Further Seems Forever as just another emo band band How To Start A Fire shows a very broad range of styles. The band is dynamic and I predict that this album will put these guys on the map, right alongside their former band member. The band may not be unique enough to break into mainstream but the boys have pretty much mastered the art.
