Poorfolk have undertaken a bit of a change on their sophomore album, Our Burning Street. They've added some volume and indications that this is more of a group effort than their debut. It reeks of 1990s indie rock but that's not all bad. The things that really stand out about this release is the wonderful harmonies that Poorfolk have developed. Tracks such as "Killer On The Loose" just seem so ambitious. I did find the album lacked something though. I listened through about 5 times and nothing reached out and grabbed me. I loved what I was hearing but it might have been intentional hooks that were missing. Elements like that take time and I do feel that Poorfolk is on the right track thoough.
I'm quite positive that Our Burning Street should net Poorfolk some new fans and please their current ones. Any fan of good indie rock should find something tasty in this release. It's far from groundbreaking but pleasurable just the same.
