Back in September I promised an IOTY registrant a review one way or another. Once again, I'm disappointed in myself for waiting. Though there's something about the lead vocals of The Maension that throw me off balance a bit, its the dark persistence and writing that has me enjoying the hell out of their debut EP release, Introspection.
Even during the awkward vocal melodies, they show a professional production using distortion etc. The track I keep going back to is, Camelia 'Opera Song'. Crawling guitar and echo pulls in Pete Lofeller like whispers at first, then giving way to more instrumental build up. Though again, the lead vocals are just a taste off for me. Once the bridge/chorus/verse rears its head, the guitars are like every Tool song you've ever heard, but unique somehow if that makes sense.
Voted Hollywood's Rock Band Of The Year (2008), they don't have very much tweaking before their fan base swells enormously.
