Grave Maker is a new band pulling out some old school hardcore like nobodies business. Bury Me At Sea is the bands debut album and is it full of energy, aggression, passion, and fury.
Sure, I've only given Grave Maker a 3.5 star rating. That's still a good rating for a band that is rehashing old ideas. Grave Maker put so much energy into their recording that you can't help but be inspired. Songs like "The Boatman" just scream out passion for the hardcore style. Not since Paint It Black have I heard this much enthusiasm in punk OR hardcore. Sure, the vocals are so monotone but the fervor that Grave Maker puts into their music slams those vocals into your brain like a freight train plowing through a herd of cows. It's the melody they manage to shoehorn in on tracks like the album closer "It's Raining Again" that set them apart from others.
Bury Me At Sea is a great debut album. I don't know how Grave Maker will improve on this one but we'll see how they do in the coming years.
