Although not all that unique, Emm Gryner has decided to release an album of covers. The interesting thing that she does here though is take songs with all male singers and recreate them with just her voice and her piano. Apparently Emm had previously release a 3 song cassette with the same Girl Versions title and they were hot in demand. Fans demanded more and with each concert she would always surprise the audience with some other boy song. On March 24, 2001, Gryner invited fans to join her for an intimate evening at the Library Theatre in Sarnia, Ontario where she performed all these tracks included on this album. It was a testing ground for what she would put on the album. These songs on Girl Versions are all studio recordings. Highlights include Fugazi's "Waiting Room", Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" and the Clash's "Straight to Hell". She doesn't quite hit it with Def Leppard’s "Pour Some Sugar On Me" or Stone Temple Pilots' "Big Bang Baby". Surprising picks are a track by Thrush Hermit as well as Robert Wyatt. Nice background music though.
