Here is one of those bands that has had a cult following since their inception in 2001. I have failed to see what the attraction was to Gang Gang Dance up until some quality time with Saint Dymphna.

It is unbelievable how much eastern influence Gang Gang Dance is capable of instilling in their music. You can feel a huge Brian Eno influence but even just on the opening track, "Bebey", there is more Middle Eastern flavor than anything else to come out of the New York area. They seamlessly make their way into the second song, "First Communion" which heads into an Asian sound with some lovely female vocals. Then the sound changes quite significantly on "Blue Nile". This song is even more beat-centric and has a huge bass drum. Still carrying on with the worldly sounds though. "Vacuum" takes on a bit more of an electronic feel, moving away from the middle east sound into a more contemporary flavor.

Feeling comfortable? Well "Princes" heads right into the garage or dubstep territory with MC Tinchy Stryder taking vocal duties and doing Gang Gang proud.

I found myself reaching for Saint Dymphna over and over. Gang Gang Dance have created an album that should stand the test of time and get them over the cult following into a bit more of a mass acceptance.

Holy crap! I just hauled this album out of my review pile and am sitting here picking up my jaw off the floor! This is one of the most impressive beat-centric albums I've heard in a while. Saint Dymphna is inspiring me to get some work done. I'll see if I can't come up with a full blown review too.
