This album starts out very strong. I'd rather be face down in the dirt with a bullet in the head. It's probably what Motley Crue thought at their lowest point of their career. The fact that this album isn't their first album only shows how drugs and alcohol can stunt a music career.
I bought this album thinking it was just another "new tattoo" that the crue put out to help their record label, to boost book sales, to keep themselves alive. But you can totally listen to this album and know the story of the dirt. What's it going to take to make it? I'm a sorry motherfucker, living in a gutter. Isn't that the anthem of every new band out there struggling? It's funny that they'd rather be dead, they feel like they're sorry in every aspect of their lives, but their career's are about to just take off.
This should have been their first album. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Too Fast for Love, Shout at the Devil, Theater of Pain and girls, girls, girls. However, Motley gives a first person lyrical assault about what it takes to make it in LA.
We as journalists sit here struggling, listening to music, writing reviews, just to get noticed. These guys lived on the streets, set themselves on fire, lived in a van, didn't give a shit, got loaded like a shotgun, slept all day in their clothes, hung out all night long at the whiskey a go go. Never made a dime, but always had a good time making a scene at the whiskey. They got drunk on sunset strip, spent all their rent money on tattoos and cigarettes.
The best part about this album is you can see it. I've read the dirt, and it was a damn good book, but I'm pretty sure that Motley didn't need Neil Strauss to write their book for them. In fact, after listening to this album, I think they wasted their money.
I got a two room slum, the cops never show, the devil is a friend of mine. If you think it's crazy, you aint seen a thing. They signed their life away and didn't care about what anyone thought, they were the saints of Los Angeles. Girls passed out in the back, everyone in the band is going to score, hell, everyone at their party scored. It doesn't matter what you think, Motley is going to do it anyway.
The first song talks about how pathetic they are, and as the album rmoves forward, the band gains confidence, most likely referring to
