Antibalas is a new signing for Ninja Tunes and quite a different pace for the influential electronica label. This group features 15 members carrying on the tradition of Arfobeat that Fela Anikulapo-Kuti started so long ago. The name of this strong collective means bulletproof in Spanish and indeed they are. All the tracks on here are strong and sturdy and rival the Soul Brother himself, James Brown, on funkiness. Antibalas is located in New York City which might explain the street savvy that they possess. Liberation Afrobeat is technically a re-issue by Ninja Tune as Antibalas originaly issued this on their own Afrosound label. In jam style settings, Antibalas is able to stretch out a song to the 10 minute mark all the while never loosing focus and maintaining your interest throughout. If groovy rhythms get you going, there is no doubt that Antibalas will turn you on.
