BeauSoleil was one of the artists responsible for introducint Cajun music to the world. Before this, Cajun tradition was almost obscured to the rest of the world and only listened to by the small American fanbase. BeauSoleil are lead be the fiddler Michael Doucet and have gone through various line-up changes but always producing quality material. Now that people have realized that this style of music is not just a fad but a part of American heritage they are willing to give it a chance. BeauSoleil lead the listener on a journey away from commercial music and into the roots of something completely different than they have ever heard before. Their sound was new but rooted in tradition. Louisiana’s heritage and musical culture owes a lot to BeauSoleil and what better way to pay tribute to a great band than a compilation of one of their greatest periods of time. There are 17 tracks of amazing Cajun culture here that Rounder has brought back for the the Crawfish compilation. Not only is this a great compilation for BeauSoleil fans but for anyone interested in what the Louisiana Cajun music is all about.
