Bring Me The Horizon sets themselves apart from every other screamo band trying to make a quick buck by surrounding themselves with sludgy guitars and incoherent vocals. Very interesting uses of soundboards is also noteworthy. But there are still some things lacking from this album that are very, very noticable.
One thing that really bothers me about Suicide Season is the inability to understand the lyrics. I dont expect perfect clarity every song, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I was expecting something amazing to come out of this album because of all the hype around this band. Hype is never a good thing and this is a perfect example of hype building up expectations that can't be met.
Another thing that really makes me wonder about Bring Me The Horizon is the drumming. From what I can hear it doesn't sound like theres any rhythm or timing with the drums. The last thing that bugs me is how loud everything is. It's very hard to differentiate between instruments and sometimes the guitars overpower the vocals. It all just sounds like a big mess.
Overall I think Suicide Season was way overhyped and I don't recommend this album to anyone new to screamo music. It's messy and theres no one direction in which the band seems to be going. And until they figure out where they want to take their music to, I can't imagine things getting much better.
