Crooners from San Fran. come and go, they're simply a dime for every dozen. Every now and then one separates himself from the crowd. Add in a massive network of indie musicians to assist in taking this from just a singer songwriter taste to a low maintenance yet complex variety of genre and you have Michael Zapruder's Dragon Chinese Cocktail Horrorscope.
The first track I had heard from Zapruder was on Dennis' podcast a few weeks back "Ads For Feelings". This song has only gotten more addicting with each listen. A fine melody backed by a flute calypso, let me reiterate once again, Zapruder has pipes for those who dig the John McCrea (Cake) sound. Another track sure to stack up plays in my player is "Black Wine" which reminds me of efforts from The Book Of Knots, its backbone creepy and melodic, but so very tasty. A great track is "Harbor Saints", which showcases a similarity to another voice singer songwriter Bryan Adams, has an acoustic hook that will tug on the heart strings of Beatles fans everywhere!
Michael Zapruder has a quality story-telling ability that separates himself from the going crowd. Let's keep this in mind next time top notch San Francisco artistry comes in question.
