Sarah Hethcoat is a fairly new musician popping up from the Southern California music scene. She's got charisma and determination like very few musicians have these days. Somehow Sarah roped in Dave Cobb (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Chris Cornell) to produce the cool and impressive Nobody Likes a Bully EP.
The EP opens up with "I Hate You", a rambunctious and ambitious song that has a great groove to it. That's followed up but the EP highlight, "I Got You". It's got a bluesy flavor to it but still maintaining much of Sarah's wonderful pop sensibilities. Then she dives right into the mellow pop territory with "You Tease Me". It's a decent track but not as strong as the first two. It does show that Sarah does have a few different sides to her. The quieter side follows through on "A New Day", a little on the gloomy side until the chorus hits:
"Today is a new day, a clear day, let's be grateful for all we've been given"
She honestly lost me on the song "Strong". It was very generic and bland. 4/5 songs are still a good bang for your buck. If you are at all interested in female pop singer/songwriters then please do yourself a favor and check out Sarah Hethcoat. I have a strong feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of her in the coming years.
