I know, major label but this album really deserves all the recognition it can get. After the mediocre Is This Desire? PJ Harvey realized that her heart just wasn't in her music anymore. On Stories From The City though, PJ has rediscovered what has made her such a charming singer / songwriter. She writes from the heart and it's not that difficult with Mick Harvey producing to come up with a sound that rings true. The album may be a little more relaxed than the last but it is much more cohesive and overall a more intriguing listen. She takes New York influences and melds them in to Harvey classics. Stripped down melodies and moderate production are the flavour of the day. Radiohead fans will enjoy "This Mess We're In" and "One Line" which features the amazing vocal talents of Thom Yorke, the forming ranking among one of the best Yorke songs yet.
