Oh Appleseed Cast, how I love thee. I know my love affair is not solely mine. There are a few other huge fans of this amazing band but largely the fanbase for Appleseed Cast is not near as large as it should be. I keep on the Cast bandwagon but no one seems to be jumping on with me. Fine with me, I'll keep this supreme band to myself.

Their new full length, Sagarmatha starts out with "As Little Things Go", a sprawling epic track that will try you from the get go. If you can't get through this song then walk away. But, if you are patient, the beauty and passion will creep into your body and you'll be sold on this band with this one song. The beginning is repetitive but then about midway we get things really moving into one of the best Cast songs.

Then on track 2, "A Bright Light" one cannot forgo the aching feeling the group manages to get across. The best thing about their music is that there is always that ray of hope, sort of like the band themselves. Hoping that one day their music will indeed be massively successful but they refuse to compromise so they truck on with determination.

The sneaky way they craft a groovy song is so impressive. I find myself many times tapping my hands or foot to a subdued beat that takes me over. Check out "A Bright Line" for a perfect example of this technique.

Sometimes I mention how a band should blend the lyrics into the background, so not as much focus is on them. The Appleseed Cast are masters at that. I have no clue what the band is singing about until I pick up the lyrics. The vocals are just another layer of sound for the band.

After the last Appleseed Cast album I found myself wondering if there was any need for anything else from this band but after a few listens of Sagarmatha there was no turning back. This album is a treat and a pleasure to listen to. Give it a chance.

After being a fan of their old stuff, the newest addition to their discography, 'Sagarmartha', almost sounds like a different band entirely. Previous albums were good, but all sounded similiar in terms of style. It seems like they really stepped out of their comfort zone with this one, changing sound dramatically to produce music that's more instrumental in style. If you enjoy catchy guitar rifts and addicting tunes, it's worth a listen.
