King Crimson are a musical group founded by guitarist Robert Fripp and drummer Michael Giles in 1969. They have typically been categorised as progressive rock, although they incorporate diverse influences ranging from jazz, classical and experimental music to psychedelic, New Wave, hard rock, gamelan and folk music. King Crimson have garnered little radio or music video airplay, but gained a large cult following. Their debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King, is widely regarded as a landmark in progressive rock. Their later excursions into even more unconventional territory have been influential on many contemporary musical artists. In the late-1960s, the band were i...

Xasthur was created in December 1995, in Alhambra, Calif. (U.S.), after Conner had played with several local death metal groups in Southern California.[5] Initially, the band began rehearsing and recording in a home studio with an unstable line-up. A 10-track tape of these early rehearsals was circulated on the trade scene. While t...

Amongst the best thrash metal bands in history Xentrix stands out as the best England had to offer. Their powerful debut Shattered Existence proudly rivals anything offered by the SF Bay Area scene of the late 80's early 90's. With the release their worthy second album For Whose Advantage the band secured its spot in the annals of metal.  Then Kin followed, and to say that was a misstep is an understatement. With their three first classic records currently being re-released by Metal Mind Productions we couldn't think of anything better than revisiting the story of Xentrix, without a doubt the most classic thrashers from England.‘You don&rsqu...

Yes are an English progressive rock band that formed in London in 1968. Their music uses complex arrangements, unusual time signatures, virtuoso musicianship, dramatic dynamic and metrical changes, a blend of musical styles, vocal harmonies, and a unique lyrical style. Despite the many changes to its lineup, the band has continued for nearly 40 years and retains a strong international following....

After a long hiatus the members of ALICE IN CHAINS have decided to honor their musical legacy by taking their beloved songs to the road this spring/summer (2006). JERRY CANTRELL, MIKE INEZ and SEAN KINNEY will be joined by WILLIAM DUVALL, who will handle lead vocals for the group's five U.S. club shows and overseas festival performances in Europe and Southeast Asia. CANTRELL says, "We're gonna take it like we always did, and we've always kind of made it up as we've gone along. If you were looking at how to really capitalize on this experience and really make dough and make it a profitable thing, a band might, you know come out with a singer, have a record ready and all that. But that's not where we're coming from wit...

The band was formed in 1997 by Jason Mendonca and David Gray. The two had been friends in the past, and played in Salem Orchid until 1992, when that band split up. They soon added second guitarist Paul Scanlan and bassist Peter Theobalds. They self-released their first album, Rape of the Bastard Nazarene, in 1999; after this release met with some success, they were signed to the underground Peaceville Records. Their debut release for the new company was 2001's The Goat of Mendes, previously released on the band's own Goat of Mendes label. 2003 saw the release of Choronzon, on Earache Records. Guitarist Paul Scanlan then parted com...

Despite their style being firmly grounded in the dark metal genre, Agalloch has always been a band who prefers experimentation over settling on a niche. The result has been two full-lengths and a handful of EPs that have bridged the gap between gothic doom, black metal, neo-folk, post rock, and industrial/ambient soundscapes. The band has earned a rabid cult following over the years due in part to their artistic & independent attitude, elusive aura, and scarce but volatile live performances.Four years after their critically acclaimed sophomore effort 'The Mantle", Agalloch delivers their new album, "Ashes Againt The Grain". Always progressing but never losing touch with their dark metal roots, the band's...

Fair to Midland was formed in 1998 by friends Darroh Sudderth (real name, Andrew) and Cliff Campbell. After their independent debut album in late 2001, The Carbon Copy Silver Lining, original drummer Jason Pintler left the band and former percussionist Brett Stowers took over the drums. For their second album, inter.funda.stifle, Matt Langley joined the band. He had previously played keyboards on The Carbon Copy Silver Lining. inter.funda.stifle was released in 2004. The album and the shows promoting it caused the band to get noticed by Serj Tankian, who signed them to his Serjical Strike label in 2006. The Drawn and Quartered EP was soon released, featuring interviews with the band, songs from inter.funda.stifle and live recordings. Fables...

It all starts with the songs. Songs that move. Songs that sway, swoon, soar, lift your soul, and most of all, make you want to sing them again and again. With a sound reminiscent of Snow Patrol, Travis, Mute Math & Coldplay, Vic Kingsley masters the epic, sing-along chorus while keeping their musical integrity intact. The Group is comprised of Jon Draper who plays bass and backup vocals, Luke Moellman on drums, keys and backup vocals, Ethan Carlson on guitars, & Vic Kingsley on lead vocals, guitars, keys and harmonicaFormed in the summer of 2007, when Vic began recording what was to be known as the Seven Keys EP, the band came together due to the demand for a live show. Since then Kingsley has...

The big-beat electronica project Junkie XL was largely the work of Amsterdam-based remixer Tom Holkenborg, previously known for his work with acts like Nerve and Fear Factory. Beginning his career at the age of 14, Holkenborg initially played in area funk and reggae units, later switching to alternative rock; while working in a music store, he first began experimenting with synthesizers and technology, and in 1996 won the Grand Prix of the Netherlands as best house music producer. After completing Junkie XL's 1997 debut L...

Early Years (1984-91)Fields of the Nephilim's initial sound incorporated elements of hard rock and psychedelic rock, and comprised a bass and guitar driven sound underpinned by McCoy's growled vocals. Lyrically, the band incorporated mystical themes, referencing The Cthulhu Mythos, Sumerian Mythology, Chaos Magic and Aleister Crowley. The band had a "dust and death" image, associated with characters from Sergio Leone's "spaghetti westerns" and often wore cowboy clothes with a weather-beaten look during photo shoots. Their debut EP, Burning the Fields, was released in 1985 by Situation Two Records (an imprint of Beggars Banquet Records). The b...

Email Interview conducted with the alt-rock band A'tris. Very Exclusive. They've done other interviews, but have they ever done one this good? Odds say no! Enjoy, and let this be a springboard to your eventual fandom of one of today's most well-concealed indie gems. Look for a possible follow-up interview in the near future...Kevin Sellers: Okay, let's get the preliminaries out of the way. Who is A'tris, who does what and where can we hear your stuff? Mason Taylor writes songs, sings and plays the piano.Ben Azar, co-writer and guitar player.Nate Lueck plays the bass, guitar, and synths.Travis Abel, the drummer....

Responsible for one of the most eclectic catalogs of recent memory, Fantômas return with Suspended Animation, a thirty-track set that both celebrates the art of cartoon composition and the many reasons to behold the fourth month of our calendar, April (with one piece for each day of the month). Who knew that April is subtitled “national humor and anxiety month”? Who knew that the dreaded April 15 was actually titled “That Sucks Day” or that...

I don't feel quite up to the task of writing about Tim Fite, because Tim Fite is a really smart guy with a god-given way with words, and I am...well, not. I'm tempted to just transcribe a conversation I had with him today and let him tell his story, and the story of this record, thusly. Still, this is my job, and I love this new record Fair Ain't Fair, so I guess I am compelled to man-up and give it a try...I was also tempted to start by saying that Tim Fite has no history, mostly because of the dearth of biographical information my Google search turned up on him, and also because then I could make this clever reference to Athena springing fully...

No Age: the name alone suggests multiple meanings and possible interpretations—timeless, ageless, anonymous, free from restriction, something positive from something negative… a profound strength in its simplicity. Likewise, the Los Angeles duo consisting of drummer/vocalist Dean Spunt and guitarist Randy Randall is many things at once even as it embraces its minimalism.Spiritual heirs to both Thurston Moore’s wide-eyed experimentalism and the all-encompassing, stark DIY art-is-life aesthetic of the Crass collective, No Age is the kind of band that inspires its audience without affectation, without cynicism. Its live shows are...

In James Joyce's Dublin the streets inhale and exhale an Irishness that is so fundamentally elemental that it's more a part of the landscape than the actual landscape which is to say: his books are more real than the real space they describe. And so it is with SCOTT KELLY, great guitar griot and founder of Neurosis, and his Wake. Or THE WAKE, to be precise. Its reality supersedes the place, the space and the particulars that gave birth to it. Mixing imagery that borders on a bold and stark contemplation of the limits of our earthly existence via our failed loves, efforts, conceits and even our less than noble...

Years in the making, PEEPING TOM, noise rock renaissance man Mike Patton's most accessible work since his days in Faith No More, is finally a reality. The 11-track opus, featuring a lengthy and incongruous cast of guest performers, is set for a May 30 release on Patton's own Ipecac Recordings label. In keeping with the landmark 1960 psychological horror film that inspired its name, PEEPING TOM had its genesis as a modus operandi devoid of physical intimacy. P...

The members of Sky Eats Airplane started their musical careers in two separate bands. Brack began playing guitar in Backseat Driver in 2003. It was a Punk/Post-Hardcore group which consistently drew a hundred people per show. Meanwhile, Lee created a band called Our First Fall with Daniel Hunter (Now PlayRadioPlay!), which had an indie/post-hardcore sound. By the time Backseat Driver failed due to problems with band members, Our First Fall was drawing a consistent hundred people per show. The band quickly jumped at the chance to let Brack play guitar. Brack and Le...

Mindless Self Indulgence (MSI) is an inflammatory band mixing punk rock and driving electronic music together to create an unrestrained sound. Since 1997, this band has been storming the electronic and punk scenes sweeping many hardcore fans in its wake with its music and albums such as the cult classic Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy. After the release of several CDs and singles, MSI has been selling out headlining shows throughout North America for the last several years, with fans traveling from over 28 different states and four countries to watch the band perform. MSI has supported bands such as System of a Down, Korn, Stained and Rammstein during their tours and performed at the Voodoo Music Experience (twice) w...

The Prisoners Dilemma was on the MTV2 Project Revolution show. They came in a "unofficial" second. A group of five from California they have been trying to get on for sometime now. They even have an EP titled The Hibernation on I tunes. So when i contacted them asking if they would be interested in doing a interview i was more than happy when I found out they were interested. Q: Where did you come up with the name The Prisoners Dilemma for the band?TPD: It is actually a social psychology. When we started the band in 2002 we were trying to come up with a name. Our bass player was in school at the time and heard about it. It is a hypothetical situation when two prisioners are accuse...

From virtual unknowns to stars of the Warped Tour and stadiums across Europe, HorrorPops have thrived on the strength of great songwriting, remarkable intuition, a jaw-dropping live experience and a willingness to explore an array of styles. Be it new wave, punk, surf, ska, rockabilly, metal or goth, the trio's self-produced, film-centric third Hellcat album, Kiss Kiss Kill Kill, embraces all of the aforementioned rock & roll subgenres with admirable aplomb. Crafting a thrill ride of an album is no easy feat, but Patricia Day (lead vocals/upright bass), Nekroman (lead guitar/vocals) and Niedermeier (drums/vocals) have done so by adherin...

Slingshot Dakota has become one of my current obsessions ever since I reviewed their latest album Their Dreams are Dead but Ours is the Golden Ghost! I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the two-piece band and needless to say, our interaction was nothing short of delightful!John Berry (JOHN): To start things off, I know Slingshot has had kind of a jaded history. How did Slingshot Dakota come to be a two piece band?TOM: I\'m not sure where you got that we had a jaded history.... it hasn\'t been jaded at all. Pat left the band to put all of his time into playing drums for Latterman. I then joined the band as his replacement. In late 2006, Jeff left the band because he wasn\'t interested in bei...

The first song conceived for West Texas originated in a moment of solitude while Jim Ward was waiting to soundcheck on what turned out to be the last At The Drive In tour.  Fast forward seven years, and Ward is set to release a full length album chock full of Americana rock inspired by all things West Texas and influenced by the likes of The Old 97’s, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. The songs explore different uses of rhythms, voices and moods, allowing Ward to be more diverse with the compositions.  West Texas has a lot of strength and expansive depth, creating a sprawling, beautiful sound.  The sounds of the instru...

HEAD OF FEMUR is the willfully weird orchestral pop brainchild of pop auteurs Mike Elsener and Matt Focht (former Bright Eyes drummer). GREAT PLAINS, Head of Femur's newest, is the band's third chapter in the journey that started on the brittle badlands of Nebraska, continuing in the urban jungle of Chicago, transforming the band from a wieldy pop collective into a tight-knit rock band. With GREAT PLAINS, Head of Femur sheds the excessive glory of past efforts and focuses on immediate melodies and whip-smart song structures to produce the band's best set of songs to date. As much as it represents a major leap forward, GREAT PLAINS is also a return home: to Portland's Greyd...

The Dub Pistols formed about a decade ago when Barry Ashworth got together with Jason O’Bryan in west London. Jason had been half of Wall Of Sound act Ceasefire with Derek Dahlarge, while Barry was in ‘indie-dance’ band Déjà Vu who had a hit with the old Woodentops song ‘Why Why Why’ back in the day. Finding they shared a love of The Clash, The Specials, Andy Weatherall, King Tubby and Public Enemy the band launched with a string of party-rockin’ singles like ‘Cyclone’, ‘Westway’ and ‘There’s Gonna Be A Riot’ and landed a million dollar record deal with major label Geffen. “It...
