Flugente is a New York based solo project of Jerry Adler from The Blam. He’s just released his second album under the Flugente monicker simply entitled 2. Here’s some music that Jerry has for recommendations:

1. Vic Thrill – Billy Campion is, hands down, one of the best performers you will ever see. The only people I’ve personally seen command an entire room so quickly are Jonathan Richman, Buddy Guy, and Glen Hansard.

2. Balkan Beat Box – This is a unique show that has to be seen to be understood. They are on tour this spring so try to catch them. Tamir Muskat (Big Lazy, Shot’nez, Firewater), Ori Kaplan (Gogol Bordello, Shot’nez), Itamar Ziegler (current member of Pink Noise, former member of The Blam), Jeremiah Lockwood (Sway Machinery), and others. All great players and people.

3. Pink Noise – A stalwart of the Brooklyn music scene for almost 8 years now, Pink Noise is one the most muscular and relentless musical outfits around. Itamar Ziegler is playing a lot of guitar now, which is great, but when he goes to the bass, he and Yuval Lion (full disclosure: both formerly of my old band The Blam) are an unmatched rhythm section, period.

4. Ulrich/Ziegler Guitar duo – This pairing is comprised of Steven Ulrich (from super NY underground bands Big Lazy and Shot’nez) and Itamar Ziegler (Pink Noise, Balkan Beat Box). Two masters at work. See it live in NY if you have the chance.

5. The Johnny Cash Children’s Album – Like me, you may have been unaware that Johnny Cash made a children’s album. I heard it when I was in a toy store in Cambridge with my one year old and thought, “What in the world…?” His song about learning the ABC’s is worth the price of the whole album.
