Raleigh

Calgary’s own folk-rock band, Raleigh is making quite a splash with their new offering, New Times in Black And White. Check out what the band has been enjoying lately:

1) ‘Camoufleur’ by Gastr Del Sol
Released with Drag City in the late 90’s.  Members David Grubbs and Jim O’Rourke.  Tracks ranging from instrumental guitar comparable to John Fahey to uptempo avante-garde guitar pop.  Full of hidden hooks.

2) ‘Co-Stars’ by Jay Crocker
A Calgary musician recently relocated to the east coast.  Made sure to be at every live show he played in town.  Ridiculously inventive with his music and his gadgets, and crazy versatility.  Co-Stars is one second raunchy noise, the next second delicate.

3) ‘In Advance of the Broken Arm’ by Marnie Stern
Serious chops.  Zach Hill plays drums on this record.  Our drummer cannot stop raving about him.

4) ‘In Flesh Tones’ by Azeda Booth
Another Calgary shout out.  The two guys behind Azeda Booth are basically the mad scientists of the Calgary scene.

5) ‘Insignificance’ by Jim O’Rourke
I’m pretty in love with almost everything Jim O’Rourke gets his hands on. This album is full of wit.  Sarcastic lyrics and dynamic musical arrangements.
