Celebrating its fourth year, Brokechella returned last weekend, bearing walkable art, beer gardens and sunflowers. Naturally marketed as the antithesis of the expensive, traffic-filled dusty desert alternative, Brokechella offered the opportunity (for $10 advance, $20 at the door, can’t beat that) to see several rising local artists and comedians, sample some dope food truck wares and support some local music, art and clothing vendors right in downtown LA. Held on Record Store Day, it fit well with the general chill community vibe felt all over the city as art lovers came out in force to represent.

With art installations on display in alleyways and various abandoned brick buildings, plus a live mural being created on a wall during the fest, concertgoers rotated between the four stages containing acts of varying genres like Warm Brew, Kera and The Lesbians, Saint Kittens, Enimal and La Font. Puppychella, another highlight, featured adorable dogs to pet, while providing festgoers important facts on how many unadopted pets are sadly killed in shelters each year. I’d gladly live “la vida broka” all over again.
