As I peruse a sea of December release e-mails looking for last minute entries before I lock down my top 2014 lists for all eternity, the words “Hand Job Academy” caught my attention. Just hearing the name, my first reaction before pressing “play” was “WTF?” but after peeping “Pop (Tumblr Bitches)”, the warped lyrics made me smile and this dope BK hip-hop/trap trio comprised of Clara Bizna$$, Ash Wednesday and Uncle Meg won me over. Touring the UK and garnering nationwide buzz around Thanksgiving after Taylor Swift filmed the actual Lena Dunham dancing to “Lena Dunham”, the #ikeamonkey’s loose. Tackling topics like Aunt Flo, the ridic pics you find on Tumblr (yes, we’ve all seen them) and sex school plus opening for comedians Sasheer Zamata and Gilbert Gottfried leaves no doubt their catchy, odd songs are infectious.

I chatted with the three ladies recently about their reaction to Lena’s dance video, talking to random people in drive thru windows with a megaphone, comedy rap, what they’d do if they were invisible for a day and weird fans. Follow and like Hand Job Academy on Facebook and Twitter and vote for them to compete in Vans Warped Tour’s Battle of the Bands here!
