Interview: The Expendables’ Raul Bianchi

Listening to Santa Cruz natives The Expendables’ latest single “ Zombies in America” (very appropriate for Friday the 13th) , it immediately made me smile. It’s hard not to love their addicting trademark mix of alt/ska /reggae /surf /punk. Selling an impressive amount of units independently, these Warped Tour vets’ future partnership with Slightly Stoopid Records made perfect sense and continues to thrive. Completing a headlining summer tour in August with The Dirty Heads and Big B (who I interviewed during their Denver stop ), the band (in their 16th year together) has been busy recording their follow-up to 2010’s Prove It.

Chatting with guitarist Raul Bianchi, I figured the convo would be funny and random but it exceeded my expectations. Along the way, somehow we amusingly discussed trumpet playing, mango cocktails, sparkly suspenders, busting ass onstage and unicycle riding (I kid you not). Listen to the soundclips below and visit The Expendables’ website for more new album info and free song downloads!
