If you’re an artist, fan and/or writer like me, you know inspiration for your next great masterpiece can come from anyone, anytime and any place. A media article. A movie. A fortune cookie. A rain shower (or a massive hurricane). A quote. A disturbing TV show. A book. A love poem. Anything that’s riveting or intriguing, remaining in your brain that gets your own flow going, creating more new art. Coming across London born and Brooklyn bred award-winning poet and now music artist Tshaka Campbell’s albums “Skin Vol 1.” and “Bloodlines” randomly (Thank You Spotify Gods), they made me stop in my tracks. Fusing hip-hop, jazz, R&B , house and even classical music with poetry about media portrayals, racism, post-colonialism and love, these records provide something to rock to with substance.

Felt blessed to connect with him recently (despite being 8,000 miles away with an 8 hour time difference) to chat about these albums, his writing process, performing at the historic Apollo and much more. Check out the video and soundclips below and peep his site, for more info !
