Interview: Twin Danger

In search of traveling music yet again and in anticipation of International Jazz Day coming up next week, there’s only one band who fits this situation perfectly- Twin Danger. Driving downtown in Austin for SXSW a few weeks ago, I got excited as I couldn’t miss their highway billboard announcing their showcases. After listening to their jazz cover with a sting of Queens of The Stone Age’s “No One Knows”, their UMG showcase stood firmly penciled into my SXSW schedule. Slow and seductive on the record but lively and energetic onstage, they pay homage to the club jazz of yesteryear with a modern noir edge.

I chatted with Vanessa Bley (a dope vocalist and musician who’s father is acclaimed jazz pianist Paul Bley) and Stuart Matthewman (you know that epic sax on Sade’s “Smooth Operator”?, yeah, that’s him) amid the SXSW noise about their new project coming out in June, how they connected, the best advice Vanessa received from her dad and Stuart winning Grammys with Sade and working with Maxwell. Check out the soundclip and follow Twin Danger on Facebook and on Twitter for more album and show info!
