Offspring - SmashSome may balk at this but the mighty punk label (and other genres as of late but I degress) is re-releasing remastered versions of Offspring’s groundbreaking Ignition and Smash. Why? Because they are two of the best albums that the label has ever been involved with and Gurewitz and the rest of the label is forever grateful for all the cash they made off of these two albums. Sadly, I don’t even think that they are adding any rarities or b-sides to the collections. Just remastered from the original tapes. Classics just the same.

Offspring - IgnitionI remember when I was working in a music store and Ignition started to take off. We couldn’t keep the damn album on the shelf! Seriously. We would get a box in and it would be gone within a couple days. The next week we would get two and the same thing would happen.

Then, Offspring did the unthinkable. They sold even more of Smash. Again, another album that just flew out the doors. We were so happy to see an indie do so well. From that point forward Epitaph was no longer just a little label. They had the funds to compete with a lot of the bigger labels. Sure, Bad Religion albums have always done well for Epitaph but these two releases really made Epitaph the powerhouse it is today.

Do I still listen to Offspring? Nope, done with them but I’ll haul out my Smash and Ignition every once and a while. Thanks for the great music Offspring.
