I’m not usually big on live show reviews but I enjoyed the TV On The Radio show so much last week I thought I would write a few words about it.
I had been checking TV On The Radio’s website every month or so looking for any news of a new album and a few months back I got even better news, the New York based TVOTR was coming to my hometown! Yeah! Of course I bought tickets instantly. But still no word of a new album, I knew it had to be around the corner. Sure enough, shortly after Dear Science was announced. Sadly it wasn’t released before their Calgary date but I checked out the two “singles” and loved what I heard.
The night came for the show. Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson opened the show but I felt that Strongbow cider was more important (oops) and missed most of his set. What I saw was alright, nothing to write home about. He has a Bob Dylan style of singing and is pretty energetic.
The modest TVOTR hit the stage and impressed the hell out of me. I wasn’t sure how they were going to mimic the dark sound that they achieved on Return From Cookie Mountain but they did quite a good job. Tunde Adebimpe proved himself over and over as both an amazing vocalist as well as a great front man. The new songs got me very excited for Dear Science as well. Not quite as dark. His harmonies with Kyp Malone solidified these guys as such a great duo. The group had great energy and the crowd loved all of the songs. They played tons off of Return To Cookie Mountain and actually quite a few new songs as well. All in all it was an enjoyable night.

Sounds awesome. I really wanna check these guys out live. “Dear Science” is one of my more anticipated ’08 releases.
Definitely see them if they make it into your vicinity. And I just got Dear Science on the weekend. I think it’s actually BETTER than Cookie Mountain!
