Video(s) of the Week: Halloween Edition

Before we kick this off, I’d just love to say how much I love Halloween.  I think it’s absolutely fantastic that a holiday exists where we can celebrate the finality of death and the impending end of life, bringing about the eternal rest of absolute nothingness.  If nothing came of our lives but fifty or so years of servitude followed by maybe ten years of elderly leisure, then something very sad could be said about such an existence.  Thankfully, we all live up to our aspirations and dreams, leaving nothing but millions of meaningful legacies etched in time.

With that in mind, we’d love to celebrate this mega-holiday with you by sharing some of our favorite creepy/spooky/mildly unsettling music videos to commemorate our own personal epilogues.  Shall we?

Now, when discussing scary videos we’re all aware of the legends.  Obviously Tool vids, Type O Negative, and “Thriller” always come to mind.  We wanted to take you deeper, farther into the depths of your iPod to bring you the creepies that you may not have seen before.  First up: one of my favorites for its homage to the Evil Dead series, Strapping Young Lad’s “Love?”

That Devin Townsend, I don’t know what’s scarier: his videos or his hairline.  (OH!)  Next,  we look to black metal kings Cradle of Filth.  This video has it all: mongoloid children, BDSM, chicks slitting their wrists with violin bows, the whole shittin’ deal.  I give thee, “From the Cradle to Enslave” (forgive the Terminator intro screen)
Nothing like Dani Filth minus a few hundred, huh?  For our next video a la vile I was going to post hstisgod’s suggestion of Sepultura’s Ratamahatta.  That was until I saw this ocean of obscene (“Convicted in Life”):Over the top?  Yes.  Perhaps all this metal has you wondering if only satanic hessians are capable of scaring the bejesus out of you.  To this we say nay and point you in the direction of Radiohead’s “Knives Out”:

Thanks for that one guys.  Really.  I was just getting over Thom Yorke’s inexplicable disappearance in “Kharma Police” and you have to drop that mind fuck on us. I hate you.Oh, and speaking of mind fucks, we would be remiss if we didn’t recognize our undisputed heavyweight champion for..I don’t know, how about ever?   You would be hard pressed to find a video more soul shattering than Aphex Twins’ masterpiece “Come to Daddy”.  Kiss Christianity goodbye.

Have some creepy videos that we missed?  Hit us up in the comments section.

Have to wonder, is that scream at about 4:30 into the Come To Daddy video real, or is it spliced together? Either way, this does have to take the cake for the freakiest music video.

Agreed… this list was well compiled and without a doubt the freekiest video is Come To Daddy, great list Tris

That Aphex Twin video shook me up a bit when I was younger. Convicted In Life really captures some originality.

I can’t get enough of this Aphex Twin vid. Definitely the winner here.
