Welcome students old and new… every Thursday until the sun blazes the Earth, the staff shall pay homage to the most classic indie albums of all time. No countdowns, or top 100 lists, just a weekly gaze into the Music Emissions vault. Let the education begin…

The Clash were an English rock band that formed in 1976 as part of the original wave of British punk rock. Along with punk rock, they experimented with reggae, ska, dub, funk, rap and rockabilly. For most of their recording career, The Clash consisted of Joe Strummer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mick Jones (lead guitar, vocals), Paul Simonon (bass, backing vocals, occasional lead vocals) and Nicky “Topper” Headon (drums, percussion).

Always causing a politically charged conversation, even after the band’s demise in 1986, The Clash have left an impression on music that some artists who have been in the industry 30 years still have not.

Seriously, either this self-titled or London Calling (or both) are essential in any ROCK collection. You don’t need to be a punk fan to appreciate what The Clash brought to music. Their amalgamation of reggae and punk really started a revolution in not just punk music but rock music in general.

Haven’t heard the Clash? Start at the beginning and begin the education! There is something in the Clash catalog for EVERYONE!

I really don’t see what the big deal is with the Clash. They are a good band but I don’t think that should be an essential to any rock collection. Clash = Overhype
