Here’s a story that makes you want to live each day to the fullest.

News has emerged that former Wilco member Jay Bennett passed away in his Illinois home early Sunday morning (May 24). The cause of death has not yet been revealed. He was 45.

In a post on the Undertow Records website yesterday, Bennett’s label said: “We are profoundly saddened to report that our friend died in his sleep last night. Jay was a beautiful human being who will be missed.”

    Wow…I only know enough Wilco to know theyre respected, any artist who can retain a fan base as long as they have deserves that respect. That being said, its always sad when the indie world is rocked with such a death, much less in this manner… 45 in his sleep…wow… RIP Jay Bennett

    I just posted a link to Jay’s last album, Whatever Happened I Apologize. It’s available for free over on the album page. A very nice, mostly acoustic album.

    Jay contributed very much to the Wilco sound and I personally don’t think they ever regained it when Jay left the band. A talented musician R.I.P. my friend.
