Things have been crazy this last month or so, and we’ve been slacking on our artist discovery, or at least entering them into the database. BUT!!!! The site has recently enjoyed another new feature, with that brings a challenge to the M.E. community…
Search the artist/album engine in the top right hand corner of any Music Emissions page. Post a reply to this editorial blog with those artists that do not come up in predictive text or at least result in an artist profile. The staff will review the picks seven days from today, and announce a winner for a $25.00 Visa, iTunes or Amazon gift card. The winning answer will be chosen based on “You’ve got to be kidding, they don’t already have an artist profile?” status.
Of course we apologize in advance for any artists deserving of an artist profile, but have been overlooked. IOTY has become quite the work out!

Dosh
Au Revoir Simone, Emilie Simon and Amina also did not show up!
ok youve got to seriously be kidding me, MF DOOM. De La Soul, Johann Johannsson, Seabear, Arabian Prince, Mugison, Daestro, Daedelus, Bus Driver, Def Leppard? Sorry I keep looking up some groups I like and keep finding more artists not listed!
damn!!! this last batch is already tough to beat!
This sucks, I think I’ve already added just about every band I’ve ever listened to that wasn’t in the database. Oh well I’ll try to think of some more.
Yea, I feel the same, but slave caught us with our pants down, lol. Def Leppard? Daymn!! Most of all it hurts the Long Islander in me that De La Soul and MF Doom werent in there.. Busdriver I hadnt caught on yet, I noticed an experience playing live with Aceyalone and Abstract Rude so I gave Busdriver a shot and enjoyed the shit out of it… I also enjoyed the Islandic electronic pop musicslave suggested as well…
You don’t have Matt Costa listed!
Ok really though, you’ve got to be kidding me – you don’t have NO DOUBT???? Marilyn Manson?? Silverchair??
Where’s The Juliet Dagger? or Phil Joel? Ambassador? Fisher? Newsboys? Flobots? Janis Joplin? Memento? Peru or Nova? Tantric?
Skooled..
Manson

No Doubt has always been questionable…We’d much rather spend time reviewing and recommending something a bit different than what they released for the last ten years. I’m not sure how to explain how maybe one album they did almost 20 years ago may fit? Either way, many opinions around here that may disagree with me..
Silverchair is under a similar microscope in my eyes, they sort of went pop, but ultimately belong…
nice job elkaye, I’ll work on this list…I think Newsboys are a bit too popular for ME. There’s so many artists out there that need exposure. The spirit of ME -though sometimes judicious about poppy indie names- is to help expose the unknown.
Janis Joplin and other classic rock artists are more about having a luxury link to an artist, broken up or defunct artists lead to a dying road. If Memento is who I’m thinking, they fall into that broken up category. Not really a fan of them myself. Personally, Tantric, I’ve always been a fan of.. especially for spitting in the face of Meeks. But again, radio bands don’t often grab our attention around here as much.
Where’s The Juliet Dagger? or Phil Joel? Ambassador? Fisher? Flobots? Peru or Nova? I’ll start researching these over the next few days…Just a note to everyone, consider Music Emissions a lot like a music only version of Wikipedia, you can edit and add, but editors are watching. Good suggestions from both of you either way…
I can’t believe I’m not seeing Noah And The Whale. Their latest album, “The First Days Of Spring” is incredible.
Mischeif Brew, Leftover Crack, This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb, Defiance, Ohio, The Exploited, Aus-Rotten, Oi Polloi, Choking Victim, and Miley Cyrus are all not on there!
Mischeif Brew is a good one…I’ll enter in most of these… but did I read that right Miley Cyrus? When in her entire life, from birth till today has that little girl had to struggle working two jobs to pay for Saturdays night’s recording session? Or actually go play live at club in front of the other artists gf’s.
I’m sorry… you’ve just gotta go. I dont care what site you go to.. just don’t come here anymore Yeap…You’re fired…
Aerosmith?
Andrew Bird?
The Ataris?
Buddy Holly?
Erasure?
Europe?
The Promise Ring?
Semisonic?
Promise Ring, The Ataris and The Promise Ring are all in already. I know. I reviewed most of their albums!
Rolling Stones (!!!!)
Journey, Carlos Santana, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Eagles, Mamas and the Papas, Billy Idol
Alanis Morrisette, Stone Temple Pilots, Dave Matthews Band, Gin Blossoms, Death Cab for Cutie, Jason Mraz
And of course poppier artists or “artists” as it were: Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Nickelback (not that I blame you for leaving them out)
This site very much appreciates the answers, some have been very good, some have been just distasteful and not even tried. This latest batch had some disappointments..
Aerosmith… what can we say? Bird is in there, I assure you as well, The Ataris and The Promise Ring are in there….Buddy Holly hurt the most when I saw it wasn’t in there, will have to go back and compile it as well as Europe…Though, Semisonic? I dunno too poppy to begin with, but I put em in anyways….
WalkingDisaster, what am I gonna do with you?!?! you’ve got some great suggestions that are seemingly missing…Rolling Stones, Van Morrison…I’ll look into the others… but I see you got plain lazy…DCFC is most certainly in the database, and probably most of the ones preceeding it. Dave Matthews really? Again I’ll look into these….but not for you as you’re not allowed to come around anymore either…Britney Spears really? Is she even considered an artist of music in this country anymore? Again, Carey, Gaga, they dont need any more exposure than they already have. Nickelback actually fought tough in the beginning, most people don’t know that or see it now with all their issues and corniness. But Nickelback actually deserves a spot, their first two or three records. Wow, they’ve been out nearly 15 years!
It really gets into an argument on whether or not we’re trying to catalog EVERY artist thats ever put out anything, or just those that belong in the kind of indie scene. I really don’t think the site would benefit from adding the likes of mariah carey, britney spears, or lady gaga.. I for one don’t care to listen to this stuff enough to review or even comment on it. I realize that I’m not the only person using the site, but I’d wager most of us that do frequent it would feel the same way.
I’d love to see The Swell Season added, especially with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova having enjoyed such success (and an Oscar!) for “Once” and with their second album coming out very soon. I’d also suggest considering adding The Low Anthem, Tobias Froberg, Maps, The Republic Tigers, and Teddy Thompson, all of whom are either up-and-coming or under-the-radar artists.
“DCFC is most certainly in the database”
You’re right. That was lazy on my part. I just went as far as the predictive text on that one.
“Again I’ll look into these….but not for you as you’re not allowed to come around anymore either…Britney Spears really?”
Well, that’s why I separated the ones that I didn’t really think merited inclusion from the ones that I thought were legitimately omitted (though Dave Matthews is really not my cup of tea).
But I’m not welcome here so why am I still talking?
X_Nasty, point taken. This exercise isn’t to catalog EVERY artist under the sun, only blatant indie or indie credible artists. Sure, we’ve got bands like Led Zep in the database. But it could be argued that their influence spreads much beyond mainstream into indie music. Let’s try and focus on indie bands on this post.
As for WalkingDisaster, well, don’t take Brian to seriously. lol All suggestions welcome, thanks for separating out the obviously omitted artists. BTW – Welcome to the site!
Nasty is on the money as usual…
Damn good suggestions guettel78…
I was only messing with ya there WalkingDisaster, I did catch your seperation of those who deserved and those who were more tongue in cheek. That’s why I felt it was necessary to be tongue in cheek right back. No hard feelings, thanks for the suggestions.
No Silverchair?!
Shame on you guys!
Lol, well, somebody already beat you to that.
http://www.musicemissions.com/artists/Silverchair
Good grief, no Young Love?!?!?! Seriously Dan Keyes is rather amazing and he never gets the press he deserves :(
You’ve got to be kidding! No Maxwell. Made the top 100 on the Billboard Charts with Bad Habits, but no profile here?
There was no Chainsaw Kittens. I was really surprised
Yeow!
No Adam Lambert?
I’m so disappointed!
no Bros??? ok yea admittedly it’s a Brit boy band from the 80s but they used to rock!
Bros rules!
Noah And The Whale
John Lennon!
Winner will be announced tomorrow, last minute (e)additions?
EDIT: O yeah, Noah The Whale was previously suggested, but thanks…

damn the facebook, lol…There’s a lot of great artists there deserving of a profile…Good Job Paul!
Good job to everyone, thanks for the suggestions. Over the next couple of weeks, those artists suggested and deserving of an artist profile will be entered into the database. Keep in mind, M.E. is sort of like an indie spirited red headed step child of LAST.FM meets Wikipedia. Meaning the database thrives on similar artists and user entry. Please be our guests, add in album info, and bio, and tour dates etc…
Without further adue, the winner for “You’ve got to be kidding” is Musicslave. With a crazy balance of Hip Hop and Electronic Pop from LA, NY and Iceland. Musicslave set the tone and held it well. Congrats…Please email me with your prize preference. VISA, AMAZON or iTUNES…
