Welcome students old and new… every Thursday until the sun blazes the Earth, the staff shall pay homage to the most classic indie albums of all time. No countdowns, or top 100 lists, just a weekly gaze into the Music Emissions vault. Let the education begin…

Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand are gauche, slicked-down and take themselves very seriously indeed, but a fortunate by-product of this is that they have buttoned up some truly excellent post-pop tunes. Tracks like ‘Take Me Out’ were the starting point for a dramatic reflux of punky pop, and the Glaswegian boys managed to make a concept out of their very existance. Their debut, self-titled, is fluffy, satirical and angular, and makes you want to frighten the life out of your cat with some mad air guitar.

Unashamedly banging on the door of stardom is not something attractive to most indie fans, but it’s highly unlikly any deal-doer could ever sway Franz Ferdinand from any chosen path. They resolutely remain indie’s coolest control freaks.
