Hawk Nelson is a Christian rock band hailing from Peterborough, Ontario. The band has become popular in the Christian music scene and was voted “Favorite New Artist” by CCM Magazine in their February 2006 Reader’s Choice Awards. In 2006 Hawk Nelson won a #1 spot on VH1′s top 20 video countdown with “The One Thing I Have Left” music video. (wikipedia)
They’ve just released a new album entitled Live Life Loud. We caught up to their bass player, Daniel Biro for some indie recommendations:
Artist: Jonathan Steingard
Album: Under The Canopy
Our guitarist put out his own solo record earlier this year. I’ve always been a big fan of Jon’s stuff, but this really blew me away and I frequently run to it. Recommended Track: 1983.
Artist: Barenaked Ladies
Album: Snacktime
We were babysitting some neighbors kids, and my wife stumbled upon this great children’s album. I must be a big kid at heart because I love this record. (and you will too!) Recommended Track: Here Comes the Geese
[EDIT by dscanland: I have kids and we all love this album as well. ]
Artist: Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova (The Swell Season)
Album: The Once Soundtrack
As by now you are probably familiar with this movie, but this duo continues to impress me off the screen. The movie and soundtrack are equally inspiring. Recommended Track: When Your Mind’s Made Up
Artist: Jon Foreman
Album: Limbs and Branches
I respect this guy a lot, he always writes really truthful and honest lyrics from the heart. Recommended Track: Your Love Is Strong
Artist: Meredith Andrews
Album: The Invitation
I had the privilege of seeing Meredith perform acoustically earlier this year. There was no production or fancy lights to hide behind, but they weren’t needed, her raw talent shone through every song. Recommended Track: You’re Not Alone
