Again, another podcast, in which my ears are exposed to sounds I normally don’t feed ‘em. Soft and subtle, the Roots genre has become sort of grayed over the years. By Grayed I mean, almost like its been kidnapped by many genres of influence. I enjoyed that Wilco cover for sho! VERY much a new fan of Cass McCombs who reminds me of Pat Macdonald, folk with funk soul. I especially enjoyed the random water drop effect.
I’m still on the fence about supergroup Monsters Of Folk… its twangy, smooth and tasty, but it’s missing something I can quite put my finger on. I think I’ve enjoyed Cesaria Evora the most… upbeat yet sultry espanol sifting through subtlety. Need to freshen up on my spanish as well, but regardless music is a universal language.
SunKillMoon was dope, but never thought anyone could cover Modest Mouse well. I enjoyed this hidden treasure. After several attempts at alerting me of Califone, you finally grabbed me…Funky roots folk with a tight set of vocals leading the way. Almost The Eelsish!
You teach me every week Dennis, how will I ever repay all these years of knowledge?!
