I didn’t really enjoy 2009, so this is just a list of bands I knew who put out a record in said year. A few gems, but nothing mind blowing.
1. Wild Beasts – Two Dancers
2. Japandroids – Post-Nothing
3. Passion Pit – Manners
4. Two Hours Traffic – Territory
5. The Decemberists – The Hazards Of Love
6. Cymbals Eat Guitars – Why There Are Mountains
7. Dethklok – Dethalbum II
8. Silversun Pickups – Swoon
9. Emery – … In Shallow Seas We Sail
10. Florence + The Machine – Lungs
Interestingly enough, I read a stat where 100,000 albums were released in 2009. Holy shit!
damn! I wonder the record might be
How could anyone calculate that? Seems like one of those made up stats/guesstimate
mountaloha, I saw Silversun Pickups live a few nights ago supporting Placebo in Manchester – they were absolutely stunning! Bought the album on the back of that – I haven’t been disappointed by it, a few only OK tracks but the rest is good. They have fantastic stage presence.

The long-lost reviewer returns. Well, not that long, but I have been out of my old familiar fold here for FAR TOO LONG. I really don’t know why I left in the first place, but I was beginning to get the reviewer’s blues in regards to music…like, it was sounding more like a job and less like something I just wanted to enjoy. Maybe I needed the break from analyzing it. But I had to come back and share the best of what I’d heard over the last year. I’ll post it in a regular old blog elsewhere in a bit of a story-like fashion. Hope the holidays are treating all of you well. Here’s to a happy and more productive New Year (for me at least hahaha)
Welcome back Kev. Definitely noticed a void since you were on hiatus. Sort of like when AC/DC goes away for a long time… Let me know what you need. Cheers!
BTW – Today is the last day to get your lists in for the $50 draw. Don’t let moutaloha walk away from this one uncontested!
I won’t be at all disappointed coming out of this competition uncontested. It will be a small moral victory!

4. Pearl Jam-Backspacer (I know not exactly indie but new label-great album!)
5. Julian Casablancas-Phrazes For The Young
6. Them Crooked Vultures
7. Bat for Lashes-Two Suns
8. Muse-Resistance
9. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – It’s Blitz
tie 10. Dinosaur Jr-Farm
tie 10. Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus
Honorable mention:
Spoon-got nuffin (EP)
Raekwon-Only Buit 4 Cuban Linx II
The bird and the bee – Ray Guns are not just the future
silversun pickups – swoon
street sweeper social club – street sweeper social club

We did throw the three names in a hat and Josh, you are the Wiener! Congrats. I’ll contact you next week when I’m back at work with the gift cert details. Happy new year!
