The Netherfriends is a Chicago based psychedelic pop band who has been around for a few years now. We asked lead man Shawn Rosenblatt what some of his more obscure favorite bands might be. Here’s what he had to say:

(1. Pachyderm- One man sonic treat! Wes is a good friend of mine and creates the most amazing soundscapes out of a unique mess of bizarre sounds, random percussive instruments and keyboards. It’s beyond any low-fi bedroom recordings found within today’s internet buzz. WELL WORTH IT!!! www.myspace.com/wesleylang

(2. Easy Beats- Might not be super obscure, but I just learned of these guys last Spring at my college library. They were known as the Australian Beatles. One of the members is the older brother to the two guys from AC/DC. Pretty innovative guitar lines for 60’s garage pop.

(3. Spirits of the Red City- Saw these guys play in a garden apartment venue and almost brought me to tears. They are a 9 piece group from all over the country. The most dynamic band I’ve ever seen and they didn’t even use mics. www.myspace.com/spiritsoftheredcity

(5. Wye Oak Played with these guys twice. The drummer plays with one hand and uses the other to play keyboard. I know these guys get a ton of press, but they are well worth checking out live
