This weekend, I was able to catch up with the lead singer of Sublime with Rome, Rome! We were able to chat about the new record they are currently in the studio working on, and the new upcoming tour this summer with 311.

I know the new record is coming out, we’ll talk about that, but I wanna ask you first about the tour with 311.
Yea we are really stoked about it! Not sure who is more excited, them or us. They have a new record coming out and we like and respect those guys. We deliberately chose them for this tour. It will be a great time, I can’t wait, we are looking forward to the summer.
So what can you tell us about the new record? Do you have the name or working names for the record or any songs yet?
Yes, it’s so rad to be able to do this and see it all coming together. We are in the final stages of the process and have about 20 songs we are working with. There will be special guests and some collaborations as well, like one with Aimee Allen. “Take It or Leave It” and “Panic” (previously played live) will most likely be on there as well. We’re also working on a dubstep track and really looking forward to that.
Sublime’s (with Rome) first original material in forever and Sublime with Rome’s first–this is HUGE! When can we expect a single? Do you already have the release date?
The guys and I are still trying to nail down specifics. For us, it just has to feel right and not forced. We’re way excited and that will come through the music for sure. The first single will be “Panic” in mid May, and the record will most likely drop in July.
Can you tell us who you have been working with in the studio?
For sure. Paul Leary in El Paso, We made the choice to make it there since the last record also was. We also like him because of his work with The Meat Puppets and of course Butthole Surfers.
You met Eric first, then Bud, correct? Can you tell us what it’s like to be around them. And have they played any pranks to initiate you?
They are the both the best. We have fun and play music what could be better? They are older than I am but still great to be with them. Everything is a prank with those two!
When you first began playing together, you had some negative energy to overcome. Do you still have haters and opposition–do you think you always will?
I don’t know I guess. All I know is that tens of thousands of screaming fans come to our shows and as long as they are happy, and we are happy, it doesn’t matter. It’s really about perspective. You can find hate on the Internet, but you can also find 2 girls and 1 cup, so it just depends on what you are looking for.
Do you think it was harder to play older songs or will it be harder to play new ones?
Not sure yet, I just know I am really thankful and excited to be able to play. I’m really happy and excited about the new songs though.
Tell me about the Dirty Heads, they are also working on a new record.
Oh yeah, I can’t say enough positive things about those guys. We really wanted to tour with them again but it didn’t work out for this summer.
What can you tell us about Fueled by Ramen?
Yeah we just got signed to a new record deal with them. So far so good, they believe in us and don’t stand in our way. They are letting us be us.
Are there plans for you guys do any fests?
Oh yeah for sure we can’t wait to do them all.
Rome, you are not only talented, but passionate and authentic. Keep it up!
Thanks, thanks–we will.
