Robbers On High Street release their third full-length, Hey There Golden Hair on Sept 13, 2011. We caught up with Ben Troken to give you some old hidden gems (and one new one):
Truck – Surprise, Surprise (1974)
Truck from Singapore, I think they only had this one album called Surprise, Surprise in the early 70s. It was 3 members of the band The October Cherries. Broken Chair is the most beautiful song in the world.
Charlie Fawn – Charlie Fawn (1980)
If I was one of those maniacs that reissues lost Powerpop records this would be the one. Originally out on Warner Bros/Hansa, I don’t think it was ever issued on CD and that’s a shame because every song is a hit. I dropped $50 for my copy, some maniac needs to reissue this.
We All Together – We All Together (1973)
Peruvian psych pop band with a love of everything Paul (and some John.) Angelic vocal harmonies. My standout tracks are Children and It’s A Sin To Go Away (also on Nuggets II). It’s a little much that they cover two Paul and Badfinger tunes, but the rest of the songs are really pretty pop gems.
Favourite Sons – Great Deal of Love (2011)
Ken Griffin, lead singer from cult Irish band Rollerskate Skinny formed the band in ’05 supported by rhythm section of former Philly psych band Aspera. New album is “The Great Deal of Love”.
July – July (1968)
Hands down one of the best U.K. Psych records of the 60’s. Easily in the top ten, no fuck it, top five! Up there with S.F. Sorrow, We Are Ever So Clean and Piper. Originally on Major Minor it’s been reissued on CD and LP.
Anyone pre-ordering the full-length or making any ‘pledges’ will receive a FREE digital EP, with multiple exclusive items – from autographed limited vinyl to driving around Brooklyn with the band in their van, The Gentleman’s Cruiser or even the recording of a cover song of your choice – offered at tiered prices. This EP is ONLY available through PledgeMusic.
