Rising Icons and Grey Goose hosted a private concert Thursday evening in Brooklyn at SouthPaw. My quick twitter skills guaranteed me a ticket into the event to see Ellie Goulding, Band of Skulls, and Jake Troth. Yes, Grey Goose hosted the event, so drinks were free all night.
To my surprise, Ellie Goulding was first to perform. She played an intimate acoustic set and opened with “Guns and Horses”. Ellie Goulding is usually crowd oriented and that was no different tonight. She explained how she did not drink yet, which is not normal. One of the workers walked up and handed her a drink, but she turned it down, since she was going to the gym after this performance. After a few more songs, she played her first single, “Starry Eyed”. Goulding got up from her chair and sat back down asking if the crowd wanted another song. The crowd started screaming “Lights”! Someone jokingly yelled out for her to play Bassnectar. She laughed and said she knows who Bassnectar is. He remixed her song “Lights”, which is very good if you have never listened. It did seem like she was not sure if she could play one another song, but decided to finish her set with “Lights”.
North Carolina native, Jake Troth came on shortly after. A few crowd members were singing along, and Troth jumped into the crowd to dance with them. He is charming. He picked random girls to point at and sing to in the front rows. I was a victim to his charm, and I give him a lot of credit for keeping the buzzed and slightly drunk crowd entertain.
England’s Band of Skulls was up last and what a great way to end the night. The Grey Goose was still flowing, and the crowd was getting drunk. Band of Skulls started the set by playing songs from their new album Sweet Sour, which is out February 21, 2012. I am very excited for their album and got to hear 5 songs off it. Band of Skulls ended their set with fan favorites, “Light of the Morning” and “Death By Diamonds and Pearls”. Full setlist below:
