Many parallels can be made between the times we are living in and the 1960′s and 1970′s: war, protest, and artistic expression. There was the Vietnam war then, and the Iraq war now. And we have definitely been reminded of this lately with the Occupy movement. There has been a revival of folk music lately, with bands like Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Beirut, and Head And The Heart among many others. What better time than now to reflect on where this music got its start. No one is better at putting together music documentaries than the BBC. Originally aired earlier this summer, here is a documentary looking at the music and mythology of a golden era in Californian culture. We are including part one here, and strongly encourage you to watch the rest on your own.
