The Kills celebrate their ten year anniversary this poignant and playful video for “The Last Goodbye“, taken from their latest album Blood Pressures. Directed by the Oscar nominated actress Samantha Morton, who made her directorial feature debut with the critically acclaimed ‘The Unloved‘, this is her first music video.
Shot in monochrome on crisp, silvery 35mm, the video reflects the beautiful simplicity of the track, with an old-school photo booth providing an intimate backdrop for Mosshart’s intense and heart-warming opening performance followed by a series of touching to-camera poses reflecting the musicians’ longstanding, spirited friendship.
The band has been on a headlining tour, with opening acts Jeff The Brotherhood and Hunters providing support. As if that weren’t enough, they also posted a beautiful six minute rockumentary filmed in London by videomaker Giorgio Testi. The short film follows the final moments as they prepare to go on stage for their headline show at Brixton Academy in London. We are also including a behind the scenes making of video, as a bonus.
Also, on Saturday the 11th, MTV Hive will be live streaming a performance they have at NYC’s Terminal 5. This takes place on the last night of their Blood Pressures tour, to commemorate the anniversary. It starts at at 10:30 pm EST.
And don’t forget, it has already been announced that The Kills will release their single, “The Last Goodbye”, the following Tuesday the 14th. It will feature four tracks with covers of The Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes”, Patsy Cline’s “Crazy”, and Marilyn Monroe’s “One Silver Dollar”. You can cop it digitally and on CD, and a limited edition 10″ vinyl via Domino.
