Do you know Bear In Heaven yet? If not, chances are likely that you will soon. The Brooklyn band is gearing up for their first live performances in almost a year, heading out on the road this spring for a full US tour in support of their forthcoming record, I LOVE YOU, IT’S COOL. The band is taking their dynamic live show to audiences around the country joined by Blouse, Doldrums, and Young Magic.
Bear In Heaven is also half way through their 4 month continuous album stream. Yes that’s right, they are streaming the entire record once, from start to finish. On Dec. 12, the experimental New York rock group began streaming its coming album on bearinheaven.com, slowed down. It’s their way of poking fun at the current pressure on bands to come up with assets or gimmicks in order to release a record, but most importantly, it sounds really amazing. When asked about it, the group said: “We literally took our 44 minute long record and stretched it to last over 2700 hours. After doing some math, that’s the exact time it’ll take to stream the record from announcement day to the release date. The result is quite beautiful and terrifying.” That means you could play the album through 4,000 times back to back at its normal speed in the time it’ll take the band’s website to make it through I Love You, It’s Cool just once. You can hear the slowed down stream on the band’s official site, or you can also stream it in normal speed at NPR’s First Listen here.
This new record, coming out this next week on April 4th, expands on the band’s futuristic, psychedelic, undulating electronic work and propels the listener forward into physical bliss. In addition to vinyl, cd, and normal digital, it will also optionally be available as a 2TB drive featuring the entire drone itself which, we believe, qualifies as the longest commercially available music ever! Here’s the new video for “Reflection Of You,” Bear In Heaven’s new single, directed by John Lee of the infamous art collective/production company, PFFR. They are best known as the creators of Wonder Showzen, Xavier : Renegade Angel, and The Heart She Holler (Bear In Heaven’s own Jon Philpot edited all 3 of these shows). Look out for a cameo by Michael Mahalchick, New York based artist, actor, and good vibe generator.
