New Orleans hip-hop star Curren$y, just kicked off the Jet Life ’Direct Flight’ Tour 2012 on 4/20 in Houston. After also playing Austin, the Jets crew arrived in Dallas for the next scheduled show Monday night. Several hours before it started, Curren$y was either arrested or detained by Dallas police. Details are still unclear, but according to his Twitter account, Spitta and some of his entourage were listening to some new Fiend music and enjoying some herb, when suddenly the local authorities showed up. A picture from his manager Mousa’s instagram account is below, which shows the hip-hop star and friends in handcuffs. The photo includes their tour bus, which looks like it’s near the venue. House of Blues Dallas is notorious for not letting fans enjoy marijuana, and is located in near proximity to a police station. It seems they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Another picture of the event was found online and is also posted below. Twitter seemed to explode with the news, with everyone from fans to friend and fellow collaborator Wiz Khalifa taking to the social media outlet to express their frustration. Seems like it was also DJ EF Cuttin who was involved in the incident.
They were later released, and continued on with the show later that night, with Smoke DZA, Young Roddy, Fiend, Trademark, Styles P. and others all taking turns performing. Curren$y finally took the stage around 12:15 a.m., smoking what looked like a joint or blunt. “Thanks for all those #freeSpitta tweets – Fuck it let’s go…Y’all know all the lyrics. I see the Jet hats and the gear, and I don’t smell no cheap shit either!” The picture below was posted to Instagram by Mousa after the release. The rest of the show went great, it seemed as if the previous events of the day only made the rapper more energized. Full review coming soon.
For the very few who may not be familiar,
Curren$y is a major up and coming hip-hop star from New Orleans. He started off signed to Lil Wayne and Cash Money, and is now with Warner Bros. He has worked with Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, Big K.RI.T., Smoke DZA, The Alchemist, and many others. He is the leader of a movement referred to as Jetlife.
From his Twitter account: “Niggaz was jus chiefin and bumpin dat new fiend shit…. Then some strangers came thru wit these bracelets that made my arms hurt…”
“Locked the CEO up, and I’m da CEO fuck….”
