We reported back in April that Deftones‘ bassist Chi Cheng had been making small steps of progress. Unfortunately the opposite is now true, according to The PPR. Having just come back from a return trip home, paid for by fans, Cheng has been diagnosed with pneumonia. You may remember that he has been in a semi conscious state after an auto accident in 2008. There have been some postings by his family made from the site set up for him, Oneloveforchi.com. There we get more insightful information regarding his condition:

“SHOUT OUT TO CHI‘S WORLDWIDE FAMILY-PRAYER REQUEST-he just got back home last night from NJ and is in ER with SOMETHING serious going on. Pneumonia and don’t know what else. Not good! Please send the word again to PRAY HARD. Thank you all! one love… chi is in ICU on 3 antibiotics for pneumonia. blood pressure and oxygen are both low. please send healing. one love for chi, gina”

Also coming to the side of his friend is P.O.D. frontman Sonny Sandoval who tweeted this:

“Spoke with Chi‘s mom. He really needs our prayers. He’s in ICU and still fighting. Gods will be done! @POD @thewhosoevers ?#prayhard”

Deftones have plans once again with former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega, and will reportedly head into the studio sometime in early July.
