Living near a city with such a rich, live music heritage like Toronto can be both a blessing and a curse. Take the night of Saturday, June 23rd for example. Japandroids, creators of one of 2012’s best albums so far in Celebration Rock, are playing the “colourful” venue known as Lee’s Palace. A few kilometers southwest, another promising two-member drums and guitar band, JEFF the Brotherhood, are at Wrongbar. That, in my opinion, is as bad as any festival scheduling conflict. It’s going to be a warm night in the city to begin with, but these two shows will be fiercely going head-to-head in terms of which one will be more sweat-inducing.
When I first realized this rock predicament, I polled my Twitter followers to see if reaching a consensus was possible. I couldn’t believe the passionate reaction I got back arguing for both sides almost equally, which I found surprising considering both groups share a great deal of similarities. I have MY ticket for Japandroids on Saturday, but I’m curious to know who YOU would all see if given the choice – Just keep it respectful, will ya? Oh, and if you want a third option, in the stadium where the Toronto Blue Jays usually play baseball, a guy named Roger Waters will be erecting a wall of some sort…I hear a couple of people will be going to that!
