Passion Pit has made a triumphant return with their critically-acclaimed sophomore album Gossamer. The record debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart today with over 37,000 copies sold in its first week.  The Boston Globe raved about Gossamer‘s “pitch-perfect, electro-pop” and called it a “solid and admirable follow-up” to the group’s 2009 debut Manners.  Brought to light in a recent feature with Pitchfork, Gossameris the inspiring, adversity-fueled story of wunderkind Michael Angelakos. It’s a MUST READ interview.

The striking R&B-tinged track “Constant Conversations” is an instant stand-out on Gossamer. With its dark, soulful lyrics and unhurried tempo, the track shows an ever-expanding side of Angelakos’ songwriting talents. For the music video, Passion Pit teamed up with Pitchfork.tv and director Dori Oskowitz to produce a stunning narrative starring Angelakos and actor/director Peter Bogdonavich.

It was within a tumultuous pursuit of self-discovery that Gossamer was born. Filled with self-analytical lyrics and layered with hundreds of unique, hand-crafted samples, Gossamer is what The New York Times calls “a studio extravaganza, updating the grandeur of groups like ABBA and The Beach Boys to the 21st century.” Gossamer is a dichotomous masterwork bound by the precise vision of Angelakos, a camouflaging album that the Chicago Tribune notes is “a soul record disguised as buoyant, uptempo dance-pop.”

Passion Pit will return to the stage this weekend for a performance at Chicago’s Lollapalooza festival. The band will be accompanied by a new line-up that will play a number of tracks off Gossamer, Manners and Chunk Of Change. Passion Pit’s world tour continues throughout the summer and fall of 2012, find all of the dates here.
