Our video of the week is from ACL Festival‘s Freelance Whales. They are getting a copious amount of attention this week, and deserve every bit. We ran an On The Verge article about the band, highlighting the fact that their new record Diluvia was released on Tuesday. We saw the band live ourselves on Wednesday, and were able to interview them over the phone. Then yesterday, they were declared the MTV Push Artist Of The Week. They join the ranks of other great bands like AWOLNATION, 2 Chainz, Walk The Moon, Azealia Banks, White Arrows, Two Door Cinema Club, Warpaint, and Givers. This video, which premiered on MTVU, is for “Spitting Image”. Get tour dates and learn more about the band and their new record here.

After two years and over a dozen tours, Freelance Whales were feeling road-worn and eager to rediscover their creative process. They had been building on the grassroots appeal of their earthy debut, Weathervanes, for tens of thousands of miles. To tare the scale, the band embarked on a many faceted journey during which they found themselves isolated in West Kill, sprawled with their instruments in Hoboken, and packed into studios in Brooklyn and Manhattan. What resulted from nearly a year’s worth of creative productivity is the group’s second full-length, Diluvia. They are playing ACL Fest this weekend, in addition to touring, having Geographer open for them. They were one of our picks for the Top 20 Indie Picks of ACL.
